Lighten and Fade Away Age Spots

These so called age spots (Lentigines are notorious for being spotted as  tan, brown, or dark brown on skin frequently exposed to sun such as  face, tops of hands, and legs.

Age spots are outward collections of skin pigment called melanin, which have collected within the surface layer of skin.

Avoiding Age Spots
The best tip to avoid having age spots is to use daily sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher, and wear protective clothing and hats when out in the sun for extended periods of time to prevent new discoloration and minimize existing age spots already on your skin from becoming darker and more noticeable.

Erase Age Spots
The least invasive way to treat hyperpigmentation is by bleaching. More invasive ways to treat hyperpigmentation are chemical peels or laser surgery.

The first thing to recognize is there are many different skin-lightening ingredients available and no one ingredient is best for all skin types.

Hydroquinone is perhaps one of the most widely known active ingredients for fading the appearance of facial hyperpigmentation.  Hydroquinone is commonly recommended for lighter- fair skin types to lighten the visible sun damage, liver or age spots.  Until recently doctors commonly prescribed 4% hydroquinine also called Aclaro to fade age spots and improve even skin tone, however new studies published by the FDA caution using hydroquinone in strengths greater than 2 percent.
